Compound Words

Last week Little-N was studying compound words. Here are some of the activities he worked on:
Files for these activities are available here.
Here Little-N matched pictures and root words to form compound words. He then recorded them in his book and drew pictures to illustrate.

In this activity Little-N matched root words to form compound words. He is going through an illustrating phase and is drawing tiny pictures for everything her writes.

In this activity Little-N made a compound word chain by joining root words to form compound words. The files for these activities and more are available here.

We have been having a real glut of compound word work at school. One child in particular has really gone to town, thinking up as many as she can remember, using the word study boxes and playing with the dominoes. The best part of the work was when I challenged her to write a poem using as many compound words as possible, telling her it did not have to make sense. So she wrote a poem called "Nonsense" and it was fabulous! I love where word study can take you if you get creative.

Hi there,
I have just found your site, blogs, material information and related recourses....what a brilliant site!! =)
I've a Montessori directress for 6 years now, just finishing my BA Hons and EYPS and just started a new job in a Montessori Primary school. This site has helped me out loads, esp. regarding my practice with 6-9 years old.
I'm enthused with ideas and eager to prep the resources over half term, ready to use when we go back! I will let you know how things go when I use them.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into your site, what i've seen and read so far been a god send! It's refreshing to find someone who is so motivated and happy to aid facilitating others learning =)
I look forward to reading more.
